TruKid features an entire product line of natural and organic kids body, hair, and skin care products for kids. We fell in love with their products from the moment of delivery, especially when my son saw the bright and bold colors on their packaging. My son has never been interested in a shampoo or body wash bottle — until he saw TruKid in the bathtub. He was immediately intrigued and wanted to know more about each of the products we received.
TruKid offers much more than a great product line of bath and body products that are natural and organic. They believe in promoting healthy living by educating children about skin care and implementing a daily routine that will help keep us clean, safe, and protect our bodies from head to toe. That’s why you’ll find a package inside of your order that’ll help encourage a daytime and nighttime routine for your children!
We offered our son the chance to pick out a toy at our local store once he completed 2-weeks off the TruKid Earn-A-Star Checklist routine, which encourages simple (yet significant!) tasks to promote healthy habits. Parents can download and print the checklist (via. PDF format) directly from the TruKid website. He has been fully engaged and remained interested in ensuring his daily routine earns a star on the checklist. I love this idea and it has definitely helped me out as a parent to promote simple tasks, such as eating healthy meals, washing our hands, and brushing teeth at night!
THE BRAND:
TruKids mission is to provide quality products and educate their consumers, which would obviously be kids! Even though parents are the ones obviously purchasing TruKid, I love how their products invent a real interest and level of excitement for children. They believe in safe, fun, and effective products with a definitive goal of encouraging a healthy, well rounded lifestyle.
Founder and CEO of TruKid, Jennifer Adams Bunkers, is a mother of six children that discovered the importance of using skincare products on her children while under the sun and participating in outdoor activities. Jennifer explored the idea of starting her own children’s skincare product line after realized most of what was available contained an unhealthy level of chemicals, or smelled "yucky" according to her children.
OUR REACTION:
First opinion that matters is clearly the parents. While my son could fall easily in love with just about anything that we put in front of him, mom and dad are the ones that know what is good and bad. After a bit of research, I discovered that TruKid products are featured as top recommendations by the EWG, Environmental Working Group. According to EWG, TruKid sunscreen is listed as one of the top 28 safe sunscreens for our kids, which is very impressive! TruKid’s EWG’s Sin Deep Cosmetics Database rating is 1-2, which represents as a Low Hazard on a scale of 0-10.
My son was very intrigued with TruKid products after noticing the kid friendly packaging, but the real test came once he hopped in the tub! We started off with their Silly Shampoo, which is a very mild and safe cleanser for sensitive skin and hair. Silly Shampoo will effectively removes surface oil, and dirt without stripping natural oils. The shampoo left his hair feeling unbelievably clean, fresh, and the scent was definitely quite favorable in our opinion!
We hardly use conditioner in our sons hair, but that has definitely changed now that we had a chance to give TruKid’s Cool Conditioner a try! I couldn’t believe how amazingly his hair began to shine immediately after washing out the conditioner. TruKid’s natural kids conditioner is made with chamomile extract that offers an anti-inflammatory, regenerating effect and adds shine to hair.
One of the reasons we have avoided conditioner in the past on our 3-year-olds hair is obviously due to the overwhelming levels of chemicals contained in other brands, but TruKid’s biodegradable formula is free of any parabens, SLS, Phthalates, artificial colors or fragrances! I could not believe the difference in shine after we used the Cool Conditioner for the first time. There is a noticeable difference in appearance, texture, and overall style once my sons hair dried after using TruKid’s conditioner.
Part of the TruKid product line includes TruBaby, which includes body and skincare products developed for the younger crowd! We received an 8 ounce bottle of TruBaby Bubbly Baby Body & Hair Wash, which was a huge hit with my son.
Bubbly Baby Wash is extremely gentle for babies skin and requires only two squirts into your washcloth. He loved seeing all of the bubbles foam up on his hair and body, but most importantly we loved the gentle and refreshing scent; TruKid’s body and hair wash for baby really leaves the skin clean and renewed!
Once we were out of the tub, I pulled out the Happy Face & Body Lotion from TruKid to complete our experience from head to toe, bath to bedtime! TruKid’s face and body lotion for kids is safe for sensitive skin and uses plants such as cupuacu butter and shea butter to help relieve dry skin.
TruKid’s Happy Face & Body Lotion is very lightly scented with a natural essential oil blend instead of artificial colors or fragrances that irritate the skin. We absolutely love Happy Face & Body Lotion, but were trying to remember it isn’t for the adults! Of course I gave it a try on my own hands and arms, but I am doing my part and saving it for my little boy to use {only!}.
Since my son does not have long hair, I decided to pass on TruKid’s Dancing Hair Detangler for my niece to review. It’ll be some time before my little girl arrives in January, so I figured my 5-year-old niece would be an excellent fit for their hair detangler, especially since she’s turned into quite the diva since kindergarten began this month!Her hair falls just below her shoulders and alway knotting up.
It seems to be the nature of little girls to develop knotty hair since they are running, jumping, and tumbling all day. That’s how knots develop, so my sister-in-law was thrilled to try out a new product as she’s been experiencing a lot of trouble detangling those nasty big knots!
My niece actually came by for a long (LONG) day in the sun and sprinklers a few days ago, so we figured it would be a great chance to toss her in the shower for a review. She’s always been my righthand gal for reviews here on MamaNYC when it comes for big girl products, so she was thrilled to have another opportunity to tell me her opinion! She told me all about the detangler she had been using in her hair at home, but also told me that the product had a "stinky smell and felt yucky".
We loved how the TruKid’s non-sticky formula makes the experience painless when combing and brushing your hair. The results were amazing and my niece was finally able to brush her hair without any trouble or pain to the scalp. Plus, I love how the result is a shiny, knot-free, and great light scented smell after a long, wet, and reckless day in the sun!

To me, the impressive thing is that it works. So many of these “environmentally safe” products just don’t cut it next to the regular stuff.
This might also be good for adults, too. I know Johnson & Johnson has been marketing their kids stuff to adults for years.
So cool! I’ve been harping about natural skin and hair care to my friends for ages now. My godson’s mother isn’t convinced when it comes to water-only or homemade shampoo/conditioner for her baby. This is something I KNOW she’d love and be willing to try!

We use the detangler on my daughters hair and I love how it leaves it soft and so easy to brush through.
