Thanks for sharing this list of strange and unusual observances in October. I knew it was National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but Bat Appreciation Month? I knew there was a day for everything, but Haunted Refrigerator Night?! I wonder who came up with that one. This is fun, thanks.

  2. Krista says

    What a great list!

American Cheese Month..would that be the celebration of American style cheese? Or the month American’s celebrate all types of cheese?

  3. Christopher Wetmore says

National Sarcastic Awareness Month “Oh, really?”

Adopt A Shelter Dog Month (Never a bad idea)

Feral Hog Month or Hog Out Month “Free Range Bacon!”

International Starman Month “Where’d I park the saucer?”

Self-Promotion Month “Dig it. DIG ME!”

World Menopause Month “Best time of year to visit Florida for your own private tropical vacation! Best of all, no lines, no kids, no warning!”

  4. Sarah L says

    My top 3 choices:
World Vegetarian Day: 1 – I promise to eat no meat today.
National Carry A Tune Week: 7-13 – where am I supposed to carry it?
Gay & Lesbian History Month – we all need to know more about this.

  5. says

We should all be wearing lace today since it is National Lace Day! My favorites are, without a doubt:
    Bat Appreciation Month
Be Bald and Be Free Day: 14 (Colin Mochrie’s Day!)
    Raptor Month

    Thanks for the post! :D

  6. Sherry Compton says

These are so much fun! My daughter enjoys telling me what day it is and will sometimes try to celebrate it in her cooking or attitude that day.

Coincidence but it was in October that we adopted our dog Missy. (Also, it is my daughter’s birthday.)
    October is a good month!
