#Spinbrush Champions For Kids:
Simple Service Project Donation Drive!
Last week, I shared a post here on MamaNYC about my very first service project shopping trip with my son to our local Walmart. We picked up a few Spinbrush toothbrushes, toothpaste, and started to ask our friends and family members to donate for a cause. We participated in the #Spinbrush Champions for Kids Simple Service Project.
I was very excited to share these memories for a good cause with my son, especially since this was the first donation drive that I organized with his help! We became involved with the Champions for Kids "Spin Into Action" by purchasing oral care products at our local Walmart, but also collected from our loved onces! We had lots of fun throughout the entire process, but the greatest part of the entire experience was handing our basket over to our pastor at our church.
Our church is always low on donations, which are distributed to local food pantries, fellow church members in need, homeless organizations in New York City, and other great causes that will ensure our goodies go into the best hands. Our pastor is always stressing the importance of giving to those that are less fortunate; I always wish I had more to give and something to hand over, so this was the first place I thought of when trying to select a donation center.
Our friends and family members delivered some great oral care products to our home, which are going to help out those in need. We left the donation basket that we purchased for this Simple Service Project in our hallway near the front door, so my son would run to the door every time our bell rang and pick the basket up. Whenever the doorbell rang and it wasn’t a donation (mailman, food delivery man), I saw he would shrug his shoulders in disappointment. I guess he assumed that the doorbell meant a donation every time!
One of our favorite products that we donated was Orajel’s brand new My Way Toothbrush and Toothpaste!
My son loves to decorate his My Way toothpaste, so he was excited to know that another child will have as much fun as he has when we pickup a new tube from our local Walmart!
My girlfriend came over to donate two adorable Winnie the Pooh toothbrushes for toddlers!
Seriously, how cute are these?!
We were overwhelmed with the generous donations from our friends and family!
My parents also included a very generous $100 American Express gift card!
… which apparently started a trend!
Two more gift cards were received from neighbors: $25 Walmart; $50 Visa!
Once we were done collecting all of our donations, I set the basket up and organized everything as best I could.
Before I wrapped everything up (and also forgot to toss in MY donations and the gift cards when I took this picture, but I promise everything was inside upon delivery!), I snapped this photo so that I could share it with all of you. We are also printing a copy to include in my sons baby book so that he can remember the first Simple Service Project he was a part of with our family!
How Can YOU Get Involved?
As you can see, I was able to pull-off a donation drive without any trouble at all! My family became involved in the project, which was a great learning experience for our son. If my donation drive hasn’t inspired you enough, I would also encourage you to visit the Champions for Kids website to discover more ways that you can become involved in this Simple Service Project.
