Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegars

Last week I received two bottles of Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar – Original and Roasted Garlic. I was eager to give them a try since I wasn’t too familiar with using rice vinegar flavoring on my dishes, so I quickly got to work and selected a delicious Tropical Glazed Ribs recipe from the Nakano website. Was it

Although I may not be the first (or last) woman you will find inside of a kitchen, I am well known for my interest in trying something different. Whenever I am up for a challenge in the kitchen, I want to make it memorable and flavor-filled so that everyone says, "Wow! She really CAN cook!". I like to tell my husband that it is better to have one spectacular meal per month instead of 30 mediocre dishes, but he doesn’t seem to agree…

Nakano Tropical Glazed Ribs RecipeI decided to give it a go and try out one of my Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar toppings, which was easy to figure out thanks to the many recipe choices found on their website! It was a hard decision, but I decided that their Tropical Glazed Ribs recipe would be a great choice for our date night dinner over the weekend!

I actually decided to try out this particular Nakano rice vinegar recipe for a few reasons: 1) directions sounded simple enough and the picture to go alongside this recipe was mouthwatering!; 2) my husband had actually asked if we could cook up some ribs the week prior, which made this an excellent surprise that I knew he would appreciate!

Tropical Glazed Ribs: Recipe Instructions & Ingredients

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 1/2 to 4 lbs. baby back pork ribs
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. NAKANO Seasoned Rice Vinegar Original, Roasted Garlic, or Balsamic Blend divided use
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce, lite or regular
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. minced ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup apricot or pineapple jam
DIRECTIONS:

  • Cut meat into individual ribs. Place in a large resealable plastic bag. Combine 1/2 cup rice vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger and garlic; mix well and pour over ribs. Close bag securely, turning to coat. Refrigerate 4 hours, turning halfway through.
  • In a small bowl, combine remaining 2 tablespoons rice vinegar and jam. Reserve 1/4 cup for a dipping sauce, if desired. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Drain ribs and discard marinade. Place a rack on a foil-lined roasting pan or baking sheet. Arrange ribs, meaty side down, on rack; baste with jam mixture. Bake in upper portion of oven 20 minutes. Turn ribs over; baste liberally. Continue to bake 15 minutes or until well browned. Discard any remaining sauce used for basting. Serve ribs with reserved dipping sauce.
  • Makes 4 to 6 main course or 12 appetizer servings.
    • Tip: Ribs may be grilled over indirect heat.

The recipe turned out to be a lot simpler than I had anticipated from start to finish. Gathering the ingredients was a cinch, especially since I had most of them already on hand and already purchased ribs to cook up sometime that week. This was a perfect date night dish, which was complimented perfectly with string beans, fresh corn on the cob, and a side salad.

The flavoring was delicious! My husband immediately noticed that there was something different about his ribs and would not stop asking me what magic ingredient was used. I finally gave up my secret and whipped out my recipe book, which highlights several more seasoned rice vinegar recipes I would love to try from Nakano’s website.

Since I have two bottles of Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar, I decided to prepare half of the dish with Seasoned Rice Vinegar Original and the other with their Roasted Garlic. We tried to decide which one was our favorite on top of our Tropical Glazed Ribs, so we decided they were both worth a taste test!

Each of the flavorings has a different zesty feature, which is uniquely different from the other. If I had to do it all over again, I would likely do it all the same! I loved switching between Original and Roasted Garlic, so I don’t think choosing one or the other would be a simple choice to make!

My daughter loves cooking with different ingredients and has tried rice vinegar, but I don’t think she has used flavored rice vinegar. I will pass this on to her. I really like how you did half with the original and half with the garlic for a taste test. I was wondering if you could tell a difference. We like adding garlic to recipes so this would be a vinegar we should try.

  9. Yum, this sounds really good. I love rice vinegar.

I’ve never been a great cook. Most of my food comes out very bland. I would love to try these in my cooking and see if I can add a little zest.

  12. Caroline Morin says:

Thank you for this review and recipe. Those ribs sound delicious. I’m already very familiar with seasoned rice vinegar, as I used it in my cucumber dill salad. It gives it just the right little kick, and balances well with the green onions, pepper and dill. However, I was unfamiliar with this particular brand and its varieties. I’ll be sure to try them.

  13. I always wondered what in the world you would use these vinegars on and now I know. This recipe sounds divine and would be really good on seitan or tofu too!

  14. I had no idea there were different seasonings of rice vinegar. I use the ‘regular’ stuff, whatever seasoning that is, when I make chow foon.

This sounds good, Ill be making this for dinner!
