Summer has officially began and we are starting to feel the heat – in the air, activities we want to do (beach! BBQ! backyard!), and especially on our skin. We are spending a lot more time outside with our families and it’s about time we took in that fresh air we have neglected ourselves from all year long.
With summer fun comes another issue – sunburns! We often forget about the importance of keeping our beautiful skin protected. It is something that takes only a few minutes to do, but will take days to forget about if we neglect to do something about it. We have ALL had at least one bad burn in our lives (remember that burn you got during Spring Break 2000 in Cancun? Yeah, THAT one!).
Now that I have a little boy in my life to care for and protect, I cannot forget sunscreen. It is an absolute MUST and forgetting to protect him precious skin would be a sin! His baby skin is fresh, new, and oh-so-soft. I would like to keep it that way. Plus, I love seeing my sons enthusiasm as we apply sunscreen. I am instilling a life skill, or lesson, which I hope he will continue to practice forever.
In order to kickoff the summer sun and heat, I gathered a bunch of friends over last weekend for a fun backyard party in the sun courtesy of our favorite household brand sunscreen – Banana Boat! Everyone was so excited and I couldn’t wait to get the party started!
We had the kids playing with our sidewalk chalk, swingset, play houses, blowing bubbles, and many other backyard fun activities. We even took our inflatable pool into the backyard for some swimming fun! The kids all had a blast, but they never realized what their parents were actually doing, or our motive for asking them to play in the sun (I know, who has to ASK them to play anyway?!).

I gave explicit instructions for all parents to wait until their arrival at our home before applying sunscreen.
