MamaNYC is a Skype ambassador!
I am thrilled and truly grateful for this exciting opportunity to work with Skype. I will be presenting a lot of great information, helpful tips, and outrageously funny stories about how we use Skype in our home. As aSkype Ambassador through Mom Central Consulting, I will be sharing my experiences (both past and present!) using Skype with all of you over the next few months. I have been using Skype for a long time, so I do (unfortunately – and fortunately) have some hilarious stories to share!
I remember using Skype when the site first launched circa 2003. I had recently graduated high school in June 2002, so I was obviously missing my friends that were attending universities out of state. It wasn’t exactly the stone ages, but I missed the social interaction that I was used to having on a daily basis with my girlfriends. Gossip is nice through email or over the phone, but it is SO much better in person!
We couldn’t be together – it was out of the question. Once I discovered the voice call service offered from Skype, I was instantly consumed in making sure all of my girlfriends signed up so that we could stay in touch!
Mother’s Day is approaching and I know that many of my readers live far away from their parents. Mom might be living only a few minutes away, or possibly in another country. No matter where she is – Skype can help you give her a big virtual kiss on Mother’s Day! Yes, I still think you should send her flowers, a card, and another gift to show your appreciation. However, I think she will truly appreciate a Skype video chat on Mother’s Day!
Prop your child(ren) in front of your webcam on Mother’s Day and show mom, grandma, or your in-laws how much you love and appreciate everything they do. My mom is less than 15-minutes away, but I am already planning a Skype video call!
KYPE
URPRISE!
I am still considering the details, but today I decided to think of a "SURPRISE SKYPE CALL" as a Mother’s Day video message for my mom and grandma. I may have to investigate and organize with my brothers since they still live with mom and grandma, but I picture my brothers bringing one of their laptops upstairs to show off a video or pictures of friends. My brother is in a band, so he could tell them he has a video he put together for one of their songs!
Imagine the surprise when all of a sudden a call pops in and it is my son singing and dancing! My grandmother would get a kick out of Skype, especially since she has very little knowledge of technology (should have seen her face when I showed her my iPad!). I am sure she would think we were in the next room over, which is why I LOVE SKYPE! It really makes you feel like your loved one’s are in the room with you as opposed to a few hundred miles away!

Head on over to Skype on Facebook and check out Mom You Rock! There is really something much more magical and personal about sending a loved one a video message instead of traditional greeting cards or e-cards.
Mom You Rock is a charity campaign organized by the folks over at Skype. For every ‘Mom, You Rock‘ video message that you send, $1 will go to Save the Children’s Gloval Action Fund in support of the new MomsTheWord.org campaign. How cool is that?

Using the application Facebook is very simple and lots of fun! Simply find your mom (or another mom you care about) in your friends list. You will only see women in the scroll, which makes it a lot easier to dig up a recipient! Next, I was asked to select a band from the Skype lineup. Their music would be included in my Mom, You Rock video message for my mom.
ROCK OUT WITH THE BAND? Yes, please! You can actually add yourself into the montage as the band sings and plays their instruments. Finally, I was able to add a message that would appear at the end of the video. Each of the band members holds up a white poster board sign with my message! Cool, huh?

Head over to the Skype Facebook application, Mom You Rock and start putting together a special message for a mom in your life! The entire process took less than 5-minutes — and it says a LOT more than a greeting card!
"LIKE" Skype on Facebook to learn more about product updates, services, and application features!
Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Skype. I received Skype credits to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

What a creative idea! I use Skype all the time for work and home.
I had my first interview via Skype a couple of weeks ago. It was a different feel but it was so nice to not have to travel for a 2 hour meeting. Love Skype!
This is so neat1 i love skyping with my husband when he is away, now a combo with facebook is perfect
What a neat way to send a Mother’s Day greeting, especially to those you can’t physically be with on Mother’s Day!
Thanks for the information on Skype.
Congratulations on being chosen as a Skype Ambassador. i had never heard of Skype before today. It sounds like a great way to stay in touch with people. I shall have to look into it more
Would you believe that I have never skyped??? I just downloaded it to my phone but need to figure out how to use it.
Seriously!!?? That’s crazy!
Set it up and get going!! It is really simple and great for keeping in touch with friends and family. I will Skype with a neighbor down the block when we can’t leave the house, or my relatives across the country. So much fun whether it is someone you haven’t seen in months, or a friend you can’t get enough of that lives down the block!
very cool, I didn’t know much about Skype, thank you for clearing up my questions!
I have used Skype quite a few times to talk to friends overseas. It’s a great program!
Congrats on becoming an Ambassador!
This is so cool!! I don’t have Skype, but I might have to get it now. This would be a great way for my son to send a message to his Granny Great on Mother’s Day!!
I love to Skype with my mom makes her feel like she is closer to the kids.
I had no idea skype had been around since 2003! I just started using it a few years ago, man I feel behind!
